Fracture Glass Print

When Fracture approached me about reviewing their product, I was skeptical. What they do is print a digital image on glass, then ship it to your home in a box a few days later. I’m always looking for ways to go #paperless, so the idea of printing on glass instead of paper appealed to me. But how would the image look? And would it really arrive without being chipped or broken?

I decided I’d give it a try (and they gave me a nice coupon so I could do so). If it turned out great, it would be something I could refer to you. And if it was a disappointment, I’d let you know that, too.

Well, guess what? My Fracture glass print turned out wonderfully! Here’s how the whole process worked for me (and find out how you can get 10% off your own order, below).

The Fracture Glass Print Process

Find a digital image you’d like to have printed. Print sizes range from a small 5×5 inch square all the way up to extra large rectangles at 21.6″x28.8.” Prices range from $17 to $135.

Once you upload your image, you decide on the size. You can tweak the color and focus a little, and add a border to the image if you wish to give the appearance of a frame. You can also choose a cool, very sleek black stand for your picture if you don’t want to hang it on the wall.

Place your order, pay online, and voilá. Just a few days later, your Fracture glass print will arrive.

I ordered three smaller prints, two medium sized prints, and one large one. Here’s how they came in the box. The glass is attached to a foamcore backing, which comes complete with a screw to attach it to the walls if that’s what I wanted to do. Nothing was broken!

Just as importantly, the pictures are really beautiful. I actually think they’re clearer than if I’d printed them on paper. (Here’s the one I had printed of my son, enjoying a sunset.)

I like how unique the glass prints are, but I did want to know if the company had any information on how sustainable or “green” glass prints are compared to printing on paper, then framing with wood, metal, or another material.

Fracture didn’t have any specific “life cycle” data for their process. However, in an email, they told me: “We are serious about sustainability, too. For starters, we recycle all of the glass that doesn’t get shipped to customers and we plant trees to offset our carbon footprint.”

Rather than package their prints in polystyrene plastic peanuts, they use a combination of recycled cardboard and honeycomb cardboard so the entire box can be recycled rather than tossed in the trash. The prints are made in Florida, which is where the company is based. And though the print is attached to foam core board, it won’t be thrown away – unless you throw your print away.
